Raphael Guerreiro is a buccaneering left back that made his name for Lorient in the French Ligue 1. His attacking style is similar to a left sided Dani Alves where his ability to attack is definitely more valued than his ability to defend, though his defensive abilities are constantly improving.
His form for Lorient attracted the interest of several top clubs but it was Borussia Dortmund who got their man just before Euro 2016. It was a good piece of business by Dortmund as his form for Portugal in the subsequent European Championships would have surely increased his value substantially from prior to the tournament. With Guerreiro picked in the 23 man Portugal squad, he started the group stages in and out of the first 11, with his place being rotated with Benfica winger turned full back Eliseu. However when it came to the latter stages of the tournament he had cemented his place as Portugal’s starting right back as they went on to win the tournament following a tight 1-0 over hosts and favourites France.
Currently sitting at a harsh 88, though this is to be expected as this last rating change was when he was still at Lorient where it would be extremely difficult to achieve a rating high than 88. However now he has moved to Dortmund with a much higher rating cap, and won the Euro’s and starred for Portugal, expect him to get at least a +1 in the near future and most likely go on to hit 90-91 by the end of the 2016/17 season.
